Irresistible #start of a new school year…not!

My school district has a crisis ensuing.  Here are details in the insurance plan changes that are now scheduled to go before a special magistrate to resolve.

Current plan A

  • premium = $5596 / year
  • deductible = $500 indiv. / $1000 family

New Plans:

Plan A (has all our doctors)

  • Employee paid premium = $16,998 / year
  • Deductible = $3000 indiv. / $6000 family
āŒ Effective salary decrease of a minimum of $11,372 (depending on how much the plan is used due to high deductible)

Plan B- Select local network/hospital chain Health Doctors Only

  • Employee paid premium = $11,753 / year
  • deductible = $2000 indiv. / $4000 family
āŒ Effective salary decrease of a minimum of $6,157 (depending on how much the plan is used due to high deductible)

The district’s salary offer doesn’t come CLOSE to covering the insurance increase.

There are many of our teachers and the public who are still unaware of the proposed insurance changes.

This is going to cause chaos.Ā  We don’t qualify for other Healthcare markets because we’re being offered an employee only plan, which has the same deductible first requirement.Ā  Florida teachers and education staff deserve better.Ā  We are also.the 49th in the country for pay.Ā  In addition, the deductible also applies to prescriptions.

This is what your public school personnel face in starting the new year.Ā  Who can afford to be sick or treat their medical needs?

We must do better!
